in winter and early spring due to severe weather and road conditions.
A portion of the route is unpaved (dirt and gravel), slow but passable
to auto traffic late spring through early fall.
Once
You Reach Granite Falls...
- Continue through
town past the 4-way stop, 1/4 mile to the next 4-way stop, and turn
left on Mountain Loop Highway.
- Follow Mountain
Loop Highway 21.3 miles (34.3 km) to the campground -- that's 11.5 miles
(18.4 km) past the town of Verlot, 3.3 miles (5.3 km) past Red Bridge,
2.2 miles (3.5 km) past the "Sink Hole", and 0.3 miles (0.48 km) past
the Dick Sperry Picnic Area and the Sperry-Iverson Mine.
- Watch for the
TRC driveways:
- The first
driveway, on your right, leads to the lower campground and temporary parking
area for unloading your gear if staying the 48-hour/ temporary area. This is where you go to find the host hut.
- The second
driveway is about 150 feet further on your left, and leads to the
upper campground overnight parking area. There is a post in the ground with the numbers 47715. Please
note this is NOT a mailing address but might be useful for folks with GPS.
If you reach
the tiny hamlet of Silverton, you've gone about 1/2 mile too far.
- Turn down the
first driveway (the one on the right) and check-in at the "Host Hut",
a small building on concrete blocks located in the lower campground
load/unload area. Someone at the Host Hut will sign you in and direct
you to parking and camping. If the Host Hut is closed, please follow
the printed instructions posted there for self-check-in.

Notes
for First-Time Visitors
- TRC
is an exclusive club for gay and lesbian outdoor enthusiasts. In order
to maintain this exclusive status, entry and use of the campground is
restricted to members only. However, we welcome first-time and occasional
visitors who do not wish to purchase a full annual membership, by
offering "limited" memberships that are valid for a single visit (see
the Membership page for terms and prices).
- To qualify for
membership you must be gay and at least 21 years of age, and
you must provide a valid government-issued photo ID (like a Driver's
License, state ID card, or passport).
- When you check
in at the Host Hut, camp hosts will help you apply for membership, and
will direct you to camping and parking areas. If you have any questions,
don't hesitate to ask a camp host, or anyone else you see -- TRC
members are typically quite friendly and helpful.
- Parking on the
lower unit is extremely limited, and is to be used for loading/unloading
and check-in ONLY. Especially on busy weekends, please be considerate
and park in this area ONLY for the minimum time needed to load or unload
your vehicle, and use the parking lot at all other times.
- Parking is not
permitted on the Mountain Loop Highway.
- Wheelbarrows
are located in both the upper and lower campground areas for your convenience,
to haul equipment to and from your campsite. If you use a TRC wheelbarrow,
please return it as soon as you finish using it, someone else may be
waiting to use it. PLEASE NOTE: For safety reasons, it is not permitted
to cross the highway with a wheelbarrow or wheeled cart.
- Both TRC entrances
are locked throughout the off-season, and often on weekdays during the
regular season. If you come for a weekday visit and find the gates locked,
look for access instructions at the Host Hut, or find a member on the
grounds to let you in.
- TRC has never
turned away a camper due to lack of tent space, we can be very accommodating.
